Privacy policy
Last updated 2 October 2026
This policy explains what ShoeGeometry (https://shoegeometry.com) collects when you use it, why, and what your rights are. The short version: there are no accounts, no advertising trackers and no cookies for visitors; analytics are aggregated and anonymous.
Who is responsible
The data controller is David Kleman, operating ShoeGeometry as an independent, individually run project. Contact: hello@shoegeometry.com.
What is collected
- Analytics. We use a self-hosted instance of Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool that does not use cookies and does not store IP addresses. It records page views, referrer, approximate country, browser and device type. Visitors are counted with a one-way hash that changes daily, so individuals cannot be identified or tracked across days. Because no cookies or persistent identifiers are set, no consent banner is required under UK PECR or the EU ePrivacy rules.
- Server logs. The web server may keep short-lived technical logs (request path, status, timestamp, IP address) for security and debugging. These are not analysed for marketing and are rotated automatically.
- Email. If you write to us, we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to deal with it.
- Administration. The editorial interface is password-protected and used only by the operator.
What is not collected
No accounts, no newsletter, no advertising network, no social-media pixels, no cross-site tracking. We do not sell or share personal data.
Legal basis
Technical logs and aggregated analytics are processed under our legitimate interest in running and improving a secure website (UK GDPR / EU GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Correspondence is processed to respond to you.
Third parties and outbound links
Pages link to manufacturer sites, retailers and reviews as sources. Some outbound links may in future be affiliate links (see the affiliate disclosure). When you follow any link you leave this site and the destination’s own privacy policy applies; affiliate networks may set cookies on their own domains to attribute a purchase.
Retention
Aggregated analytics are kept indefinitely because they contain no personal data. Technical logs are kept for a short period (days to a few weeks). Correspondence is deleted when no longer needed.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data-protection law you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to processing, and complain to a supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office, ico.org.uk). Email hello@shoegeometry.com. Because we hold almost no personal data, most requests will have a simple answer.
Hosting
The site is hosted on a virtual server under the operator’s control. DNS is provided by Cloudflare, which processes DNS queries under its own policy.
